Project Goals
1. Security and attack analysis and modeling in SDN
2. Developing methods that use data packet content and flow patterns to detect and prevent complex network-based attacks in SDN
3. Development of software module(s) to be added to network controller and switching devices to increase network security in SDN
4. Identify possible extensions to the OpenFlow protocol to improve SDN security
5. Development of communication protocols to coordination action in the case of detection, prevention and mitigation of threats in SDN
6. Develop solutions for SDN to facilitate the implementation of “Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)” policies and increase security at every point of the systems
7. Evaluating the performance of developed solutions in realistic scenarios and pilot tests
Future Internet aims to support new technologies such as mobile devices and the Internet of Things. Ensuring the security of these new technologies requires innovative network architectures. SDN is one of the key concepts that need to be examined and investigated in the transition to these technologies. In this project, it is planned to develop the network systems operating at high data rates by ensuring the security of SDN. Therefore, one of the main objectives of our project is to contribute to the development of new generation network technologies for the Future Internet.
Besides, after identifying the security vulnerabilities of SDN technology, the aim of this project is to develop effective and efficient security mechanisms and communication protocols to mitigate these vulnerabilities. The proposed and developed security models will be examined by simulation on scalable, distributed and high data rate software platforms. In addition, it is planned to create an experimental and lifelike environment in order to have a better insights about the functions of software based networks and to perform security and performance tests of the system. In this way, the benefits / drawbacks of proposed changes to the system in terms of performance and security can be measured. Therefore, another main objective of our project is to contribute to the development of the Future Internet architectures and models.
